My Vision
NOTE: In an effort to dispel recently disseminated misinformation regarding the Town shuttle survey and the shuttle’s viability, I urge you to read the 2023 Transit Task Force II Report and the Final Transit Task Force Report (2021) posted to the Town’s website. I’m not anti-shuttle. I just want to know how to sensibly pay for it.
I want residents to feel safe and have a sense of belonging to something bigger than themselves. I want our citizens to know how to participate in our Town’s governance, and how to civilly voice their opinions and share their ideas. I want our Town to actively celebrate the richness of our diversity, what we can accomplish when we work together, and our place in the future.
As Ward 3 Councilmember, I participated in the hiring process for the Town Police Chief; led the recruitment of the Interim Town Administrator; voted to approve the purchase of the offsite Town garage property; participated in several community planting events; hosted a community forum on Town management; and electronically shared detailed explanations of Town matters and issues.
As Council Liaison to the Committee on Trees, Parks and the Environment, I sponsored the tree ordinance protecting all healthy trees of a certain circumference.
As Chair of the Committee on Policy, Rules and Municipal Structure, I sponsored legislation on gas-powered leaf blowers which includes a $100 rebate for replacement lawn equipment.
As a Member of the Committee on Public Facilities and Services, I helped to commission proposals for the Town Hall redesign and storm water management solutions.
Municipal Relationships
Building strong relationships with local municipalities and county leaders will ensure that University Park residents are represented in the larger ecosystem that surrounds and affects our town.
Tree Canopy
Informing residents about the value of maintaining University Park’s tree canopy will encourage more participation in the Town’s tree-replacement rebate program and compliance with its tree health ordinance.
Town Hall ADA Compliance
Making our Town Hall compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act, thorough continued collaboration with the Committee on Public Facilities and Services, will allow all residents to participate more fully in their local government.
Storm Water Management
Enacting proposed storm water solutions will decrease potential flooding of public and private property and fortify the Town against climate change.
Public Safety
Partnering on projects with Chief Baker, the UP Police Department, and the Committee on Police, Traffic and Public Safety will strengthen the department’s ability to respond to residents’ needs.
Community Involvement
Gathering with our neighbors at events sponsored by Town Council Committees, Police Department and UP Civic Association will build a more integrated, informed and compassionate community.
